HOW TO REGISTER A SALUKI WITH THE SPDBS

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTERING A SALUKI WITH THE SPDBS

1. The primary function of the SPDBS is to record and register imported Middle Eastern Salukis, and their descendants from countries that do not have a western type registry. To be eligible for consideration, the Saluki must be considered pure bred with ancestry traceable to its Middle East country of origin. If the Saluki is not registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) because it is a Middle Eastern import or it is a descendant of an import, it may be eligible for registration by the SPDBS. Each individual Saluki, in any generation, seeking SPDBS registration, must go through the same critique evaluation procedure.

2. What if the Saluki is registered with an internationally recognized registry such as the United Kingdom’s Kennel Club (KC), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Mexico’s Federacion Canofila Mexicana (FCM), Germany’s DWZRV or any other Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) affiliate, and meets the requirements for AKC Registration? The Saluki will be ineligible for SPDBS registration because it is already eligible for AKC registration. However, if the Saluki does not meet AKC’s criteria due to the complications of a Middle Eastern import in its pedigree, the Saluki may be eligible for SPDBS Registration.

3. Imported Middle Eastern Salukis and their descendants, which are building a three generation pedigree within KC, CKC, FCM, DWZRV, any FCI affiliate, or other internationally recognized dog registry, may be eligible for SPDBS registration. The SPDBS accepts pedigrees from the AKC and all the above mentioned registries. Salukis registered with one of these registries, in the pedigree of a Saluki seeking SPDBS registration, will be considered to be pure bred. Tribal verbal pedigrees—where verbal pedigrees are the custom—accompanied with importation documentation may be considered in establishing proof of pure breeding.

THE STEPS IN SPDBS REGISTRATION

1. Request a Critique Registration Number (CRN) Application from the SPDBS Registrar or down load it from the SPDBS website. Submit the completed registration application, requested documents, photos and appropriate fee, to the SPDBS Registrar.

2. Once the completed application, documentation, photographs, and the correct fee are received by the SPDBS, the owner will be informed of the schedule and locations of SPDBS critiques in which the Saluki may be presented for evaluation by a panel of three or more qualified judges appointed by the SPDBS. If no timely critiques are scheduled in a location readily accessible to the Saluki owner, the SPDBS will appoint three qualified judges who may, independently, critique the Saluki. Send the original completed critique forms directly to the SPDBS Registrar. The Saluki owner is responsible for providing all other documentation. The registrar will assign the Critique Case Number (CCN) once the completed critique package is received. The Critique panel will record any permanent identification (Tattoo/Microchip number) on the critique form, and will note if DNA testing has been done. Measurements will be taken for statistical purposes.

3. A packet of all the above information along with the judges’ critique evaluations will then be submitted to the SPDBS Registrar. The Review Panel will study each case to determine the final status. Providing the Review Panel considers the Saluki to be pure bred, and if all registration requirements are met, a Critique Registration Number (CRN) will be assigned and an official SPDBS Registration Certificate will be issued.

4. All dogs that undergo the critique procedure receive a SPDBS CCN whether or not they are considered to be a pure bred Saluki. This information will be kept in the SPDBS archives. If a dog is considered not to be a pure bred Saluki, it will be recorded with the word REJECTED as a suffix to its Critique Case Number (CCN XXX-XXX REJECTED).

5. Should any grievance occur due to the result of the registration process an appeal procedure is available. A letter clearly stating the grievance should be sent to the SPDBS Registrar. The SPDBS chairman will appoint a review panel to hear the grievance.
