Proposal to transfer the Registration of Generation 1 and 2 Salukis to AKC.

Rationale

The majority of imports today are coming through FCI registries. All Middle Eastern countries have FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) affiliated registries except for the following five: Yemen, Qatar, Syria, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

Middle Eastern Salukis entering European registries are entering the AKC Studbook directly. The international movement of dogs between accepted registries requires official Export Pedigrees. Each country in FCI has a different protocol for issuing or accepting these pedigrees.

The AKC Foreign Registration department has dedicated staff dealing with the complexity of Export pedigrees and can adjudicate issues arising from AKC reciprocity agreements. This proposal, if accepted, resolves SPDBS Export pedigree issues and reiterates AKC’s ultimate  role in all registration decisions.

The Proposal

The Society for the Perpetuation of Desert Bred Salukis (SPDBS) will critique and register Salukis seeking AKC registration with unknown pedigrees (no sire and dam) from accepted countries of origin.

  1. These Salukis will be critiqued per the 2002 agreement with the Saluki Club of America (SCOA) and AKC (American Kennel Club).

  1. AKC DNA typing (Parentage) is required.

  1. Verification of microchip is required.

  1. Litters from these Salukis will be critiqued and registered by SPDBS at seven months of age or older, per the 2002 agreement with AKC. DNA typing of all puppies through the AKC DNA program is required.

  • These Generation 1 Salukis will be eligible for transfer to AKC registration via AKC Open Registration.

The AKC Foreign Registration Department will process applications for registration by imported Generation 1 and 2 Salukis with known parents.

  1. Imported Salukis (with Generation 1 status (known parents) or more known generations in their pedigrees) apply for registration using AKC Foreign Registration, with DNA typing and microchipping per AKC Foreign registration requirements.

  1. Registration acceptance decisions by AKC are final.

It should be understood that UNKNOWN refers to UNREGISTERED. Salukis from countries of origin have not existed within a registration world however they do have extensive knowledge known about their lineages. With the arrival of FCI these countries have just started the building of their western style studbooks.
