GENERATIONS EXPLAINED

Generation refers to the position in a pedigree an ancestor holds or distance in breeding generations from Country of Origin.

  • A Generation 0 is a Saluki whelped in the Middle East without known parents or registration.

  • A Generation 1 is a Saluki with one or more parents whelped in a Middle Eastern Country without FCI affiliation. One or more parents is one generation from the Middle East. One parent may be AKC or FCI registered.

Most, but not all Middle Eastern Countries have recognized Studbooks by FCI.  At this time, only Iraq, Oman,Yemen, Qatar, Syria, and Saudi Arabia are not FCI participants.

FCI Pedigrees from countries with AKC accepted Studbooks are accepted by AKC if they are one generation.  If the Saluki has a certified pedigree from an FCI partner that is not one generation it may enter the SPDBS Domestic Registry upon completing the required documentation if the Saluki or one of its ancestors is descended from a Saluki born in the Middle East.

Pedigrees in the SPDBS Domestic Registry may be a combination of Desert Bred, AKC, or FCI registered.  Generational status is always determined by the individual closest to Country of Origin.
